Little Mao tells the life story of Mao Tse-Tung through 12-year-old Bobby Tung and his baseball team. After a bumblebee and pop fly transform shy Bobby into Chairman Mao incarnate, Bobby emancipates the neighbourhood kids from their chores and leads them to victory on the field.
As the wins pile up, Chairman Bobby consolidates his power with Madame Jan by his side, but banishes lifelong friend Joe from the team as he sees enemies everywhere on the baseball diamond.

ALLAN TONG (Director/Writer)

Allan is a Toronto filmmaker, film programmer and film journalist. His films, including I Want To Be A Desi (Bravo!FACT) and Grange Avenue have won awards and been broadcast on TV across Canada. He is currently co-directing the documentary, Leone Stars, which has won development prizes from TIFF and Sundance. Allan is a Sundance Institute Documentary Fellow. He has programmed for several Toronto festivals, and writes for the nation’s top film magazines, including POV and Montage as well as New York’s Filmmaker. Allan has also been a producer at TV documentary series companies.
